Apohem authorised to run outpatient pharmacies

Apohem has now been authorised by Medical Products Agency Sweden to operate outpatient pharmacies, meaning it can also sell prescription medications.

Now Apohem is taking the next step towards becoming a full-service online pharmacy.

 “We aim to enable our customers to buy their prescription medications from us by the end of the year,” says Henrik Patzer, CEO of Apohem.

The pharmacy market has annual sales of more than SEK 40 billion and is growing steadily, particularly through online sales. From the beginning, Apohem has stated it plans to become Sweden’s leading online pharmacy.

  “Now we have taken the next step in this direction,” says Patzer.

Criteria for authorisation

According to the Medical Products Agency Sweden, a company needs to meet the following criteria to operate outpatient pharmacies:

  • Applicants are suitable for carrying out pharmacy activities.
  • Persons with controlling authority arepersonally and economically suitable.
  • The description of the pharmacy’s activities seems reasonable.
  • The pharmacy premises are appropriate and adequately staffed.
  • The pharmacy can provide all prescribed medications and goods included in the pharmaceutical benefits scheme.
  • The proposed pharmaceutical manager meets the requirements.
  • There are no circumstances that prohibit authorisation.
