Novax approaching SEK 1bn in the Security Sector – recruits industry veteran to accelerate pace and ambition

Jan 26, 2023

The investment company Novax, which is part of Axel Johnson, has recruited ASSA ABLOY veteran Samuel Asarnoj to accelerate its investments in the security sector. Technical Security, which is one of Novax’s four focus sectors, has recently expanded with several acquisitions and is approaching SEK 1bn in revenue. Focus is on digitization of access & security and on solutions enabling smart, safe and more energy-efficient cities. Within five years, Novax targets an international presence and a revenue of several billion SEK.

Novax’s operations in the security space has expanded in recent years through a number of acquisitions, where the platform in access control systems via the company RCO, has been complemented with numerous solutions; such as mobile access to offices via Accessy and Unloc, smart door locks, box solutions and access systems for private residences via the companies Din Box and Nimly and electromechanical lock solutions for home services and critical infrastructure via the acquisition of Swedlock. The industry is still fragmented and Novax sees great opportunities to continue its expansion through a combination of organic growth and complementary acquisitions of Swedish and international companies.

Samuel Asarnoj has significant experience from the security industry both in Sweden and internationally, including as Global Market and Business Development Director of the ASSA ABLOY Group, as well as SVP Strategy and Business Development of HID Global based in USA. Samuel has also been an entrepreneur and started several companies.

Joakim Skarborg, CEO Novax

“We are happy to have found Samuel who has deep knowledge and extensive experience from the security industry, shares our long-term view of building companies and, like us, is passionate about innovation in security,” says Joakim Skarborg CEO of Novax. “With the financial backing of a strong and long-term owner and a fantastic team in place, we are ready to accelerate the investment in Technical Security.”

Samuel Asarnoj, Sector Manager for Technical Security

“I’m really looking forward to lead Novax’s Technical Security sector,” says Samuel. “The technological paradigm shift from mechanical to electronic access creates opportunities for smart digital solutions which will benefit both end users, property owners and the climate. A lot of exciting things are happening in the intersection of Proptech and Access; the goal is to build a group of companies within a five-year period with a revenue of several billion SEK through a combination of organic and acquired growth and build a meaningful corporate leg within Axel Johnson.”
