Anders Carlbark New CEO of STC – Sweden's Fastest Growing Gym Chain

June 28, 2021

Anders Carlbark has been appointed as the new CEO of STC today. Following the acquisition of Puls & Träning earlier this year, STC became Sweden's second-largest fitness chain in terms of the number of facilities. Anders Carlbark currently serves as the CEO of Actic and will join STC in 2022.

From its base in Western Sweden, STC has grown faster than any other health and wellness chain and currently has over 200 facilities nationwide. STC is majority-owned by Novax, along with co-founder and current CEO Katarina Andersson.

Over the past 2.5 years, Anders Carlbark has been the CEO of the listed fitness chain Actic, where he has made a significant impact by increasing customer focus and strengthening structural capital. Prior to that, he has a long background in retail, including at H&M where he was most recently the global head of merchandising.

Josef Bexell, Chairman of the Board of STC and Sector Manager of Health & Wellness at Novax, stated:

"The level of ambition and pace of expansion we have at STC is very high. Everything we do is based on a clear business and societal idea; we know that exercise is crucial for our physical and mental health, and we want to help people incorporate exercise into their daily lives by lowering barriers and offering facilities with high accessibility and joy of exercise. Succeeding in recruiting a leader with Anders' background, drive, and ability is confirmation of the exciting platform STC has to continue growing from. Anders' mission as CEO is to, together with employees and with the customer at the center, maintain a high pace of expansion and renewal, and to ensure that we get even more people moving."

STC's current CEO, co-founder, and shareholder Katarina Andersson will continue to be actively involved in the company:

"The past few years have been the most exciting in our history since our founding in 1997. As we now take the next step from the national presence we have, it is a good opportunity to also bring in additional energy to the management team through a change in the CEO position. I look forward to supporting Anders in his work with our members and employees from a new role. STC's culture is unique, and Anders fully shares our values."

Anders Carlbark, incoming CEO of STC, stated:

"I am proud and happy to take over the CEO position at STC. Based on my own experience and conviction about the importance of exercise for well-being, STC's and the owners' ambition and long-term focus on accessibility and user benefit are incredibly motivating. STC has a strong platform and, despite the rapid expansion in recent years, is only at the beginning of an exciting growth journey, and I look forward to moving back to Gothenburg and joining."
